Kia Ora Bloggers, Did you know Sir Apirana Ngata worked hard to improve life for Maori people, and that Dame Whina Cooper worked on improving health, education, housing and welfare for Maori Women.
A role model in my life is my Nan her name is Sophie Dodd. She has worked alongside Ministry of Primary Industries as a Kaitiaki. Spending time on the beaches in Mahia, making sure people are only taking what they should from our oceans. Maori traditions and protocols are very important to her, and insuring they are done properly. She is also a very valued and respected kaumatua in her community. A few years ago she received a Queens Service Medal for more than 40 years serving the community and Maori in the Mahia area. Just before Christmas she was lucky enough to have lunch with our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern as part of the Tuia 250 Voyage celebrations
I hope one day I can be as amazing as she is.

Hello Maddison
ReplyDeleteGreat blog post Maddison. I very like the time and passion you have putted in to make this fantastic blog post. Your Nan seems so sweet and caring for the planet and for the Maori culture. What made you want to share about her? Keep it up Maddison!

Mōrena Maddison,
ReplyDeleteKa pai on sharing about someone who is a role model for your activity today. This is one of my favourite activities because you get to talk about someone who is special to you, that you look up to and share some of their wise words they have shared with you.
I really like that you have chosen to write about your nan today, I can tell that she is very important to you and that she is someone that you look up to very much. I really enjoyed reading about all the work your nan has done and some of the privileges she has had such as receiving a Queens service medal and also have lunch with our Prime Minister Jacinda.
This activity also asks you to share some “Wise words” that your chosen role model has shared with you. Maybe you can ask your nan for some advice that she would want you to share with your blog readers.
Ngā Mihi,
Kueni :)
Hello Maddison,
ReplyDeleteI was just looking around when I found this blog post, so I decided to comment on it. I really like how you added some back story to the activity. I also really like how you added pictures of her. Wow! Your nan sounds like a very influential person. She must have done something very important to get to have lunch with the prime minister. I would defiantly chose her if I had the chose a role model. Do you have anyone else who is a role model for you. Keep up the astonishing work!
