Summer Learning Journey - Wise Words

Kia Ora Bloggers, Did you know Sir Apirana Ngata worked hard to improve life for Maori people, and that Dame Whina Cooper worked on improving health, education, housing and welfare for Maori Women.

A role model in my life is my Nan her name is Sophie Dodd.  She has worked alongside Ministry of Primary Industries as a Kaitiaki.  Spending time on the beaches in Mahia, making sure people are only taking what they should from our oceans.  Maori traditions and protocols are very important to her, and insuring they are done properly.  She is also a very valued and respected kaumatua in her community.  A few years ago she received a Queens Service Medal for more than 40 years serving the community and Maori in the Mahia area.  Just before Christmas she was lucky enough to have lunch with our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern as part of the Tuia 250 Voyage celebrations

I hope one day I can be as amazing as she is.
