Summer Learning Journey - Swimming to Safety

Kia Ora Bloggers, today I have read a story about Yusra Mardini, below is a short recount of her story.

Yusra became a refugee by leaving Syria because of the war. She left Syria by boat in 2015.Saving lives of 20 people when the boat engine broke down. With her family, she now lives in Germany. She joined the Refugee Olympic Team as a swimmer and competed at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

I think she was very brave, and is now doing something she loves.

  1. Ola Maddison,

Thanks for posting about Yusra Mardini, she is a pretty incredible and brave young woman isn’t she! Did you know anything about her before you did this activity? I didn’t, so your post definitely taught me something new :)

It’s amazing how some people can experience so much scary and harmful stuff in their life but still succeed, and therefore be inspirational to others.

    Keep up the great mahi!

  2. Afternoon Maddison

What an inspirational woman. She has overcome one of the most scariest moments in her life to being an Olympic Swimmer. Something you could aim to do Maddison, with your great swimming. Imagine competing alongside her.

    Awesome Work

    xx
