Week 4 Day 1 Activity 2- Guardians of the Sea

On this post I have to say if I believe in taniwhas or not.

I believe in taniwhas because I am Maori and taniwhas are talked about in our myths and legends. If I ever see a taniwha I would tell my friends. The taniwhas have sharp teeth so you don't want to swim in the Waikato River because the taniwhas were in the in the river first.

Check out my blog for more of my summer Learning Journey.

  1. Hi Maddison,

It's Leslie here, a member of the Summer Learning Journey team reading your blog from my home in Canada. I have a little Maori grandson, Aronui, so I appreciate getting your opinion on whether or not taniwhas live in the Waikato River. Did you watch the video showing the strange eruption of bubbles on the surface of the water? It's very hard to explain that kind of thing, isn't it?

We have a sort of mythical 'creature' in Canada too called "Big Foot". People have claimed to see him at a distance in the forests of western Canada and there have been many sightings of huge footprints on the ground and in the snow in some places that can't be described as being made by an animal. It's all very mysterious....

I guess, as you say, the Waikato is one river you won't be swimming in this summer. But I hope you're getting some time at a beach or pool somewhere and I hope you're enjoying doing these Summer Learning Journey activities. I'm so glad that you've chosen to be involved!!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
