Summer Learning Journey - Celebrating Summer - Week 4 Day 4 - Float Your Boat

Kia Ora Blogger and welcome back to another task! Today we are talking about boats. We had to make one paper boat and then see if it would float. For the Kick Start activity I made the boat with my little sister. Then my Mum had the idea for us to go outside in the rain and use the water in the gutter to float the boats.

And for the Step It Up activity we had to make some other boats and see if they will float.

Here is a slideshow of us making the boats and testing them out.  When we were outside our first test didn't work properly, it got stuck on some rocks in the gutter.  So we tried a different section and it worked.

Here are the boats I made using these links below:

  1. Mōrena Maddison,

It’s Charlotte here, a commenter for the Manaiakalani Summer Learning Journey. You have done some great work on the ‘Paper Boat’ task!

I really enjoyed looking through the pictures, slideshows, and videos that you included into your post! I thought it was awesome how your sister got involved and helped you out with the task! Had you ever been on a boat before? I think they are so much fun.

I think that it is awesome how you linked a couple of instruction videos on how to make a few different types of paper boats! This allows your readers to have a go at creating their own paper boats!

  2. Hey Maddison,

I was really impressed with this activity. You spent lots of time not only building your own boats but including your sister in as well. She is definitely going to be ready to partake in the Summer Learning Journey herself next Summer.

Watching you and your sister play with the boats outside reminded me of when we were kids and played outside with stuff like that. Seeing how far our boats could go. And who's boat would get there faster.
Great seeing you in raincoats too when you were testing your boats outside.

Which was your favourite boat to make?
    Mum
