Gumboot Friday.

Gumboot Friday.

Hey Bloggers!

Last week it was Gumboot Friday. And the teachers wore a pair of gumboots to raise awareness for mental health. Do you know what well-being and Mental health is? Mental health is being positive and feeling good about yourself. Gumboot Friday is also about encouraging others to wear gumboots.  One of the students thought of an idea, the idea was to post the cards in letterboxes. We were writing positive quotes for people that had Mental Health problems. And I wrote 2 quotes the quotes I wrote was: ‘Happy People are beautiful just like you’. And the other quote I wrote was: Be the best you can be. And some of the students wrote lots of quotes but they shared some of the cards with others. We walked around some of the streets close to school. Then on Tuesday the 9th April, we asked some parents if they could help us with taking the students to post the cards in the letterboxes. Our inquiry topic for the year is Hauora-Well-Being.

Tread Lightly Caravan Visit

The Tread Lightly Caravan Visit.

This week we had the Tread Lightly Caravan visit! The Tread lightly Caravan people are Phil and Hanna. They taught us how to keep our drains clean and where to put our rubbish in the right place. There were 3 stations so Phill split my class into 3 groups. The 3 stations were with Hanna and with Hanna was learning about what happens to the water when it flows down the hills and mountains and there was a headset that we could see the sea and what islands and what birds like those islands. And with Phil we were learning where the rubbish goes to and what rubbish needs to go in the right bins. And with Romana we were looking around our school and seeing how many drains we have in our school. And we have lots of drains! Some of the drains were filled with rubbish, but only one drain was going perfectly fine. The water was flowing and there was no rubbish in that drain. I learnt that when you put a liquid down the sink it goes to the water care.
