Week 2 Day 5 Activity 1 - Off The Menu

If people are caught fishing in over-fished area where they are trying to repopulate the species, they are required to pay a fine of a maximum $100,000.  I now have to decide if I agree with this rule.

This rule is not good because people having to pay up to $100 000! That's way to expensive for someone over fishing. I think the rule should happen because some people do over fish. I think they should have to spend time in that area helping maintain it. Helping the fish repopulate.

  1. Malo e lelei Maddison,

Well done on completing another SLJ activity, 'Off the Menuu' and sharing some reasons why you think that people over fishing shouldn't be charged $100,00.

First of all, I wanted to commend you for being so passionate about this issue. I think it is important that we stand up for what we believe in and this is exactly what you are doing. You have come up with a very clever alternative. Having people who are over fishing help repopulate the area with fish is a fantastic idea, Maddison! Ka pai for coming up with this consequence. Maybe, when they are caught fishing in the area once, then they have to complete 40 hours community work helping in the area. If they are caught a second time, then that number of hours doubles. If they are caught a third time, then maybe they get the $100,000 fine. What do you think of this consequence?

I had originally thought that the fine was a good idea, but you have just changed my mind.

    Awesome work, Maddison,
    Megan :)

  2. Hi Maddison,

I agree with Megan, i thought the fine was a great idea until you mentioned them spending time and helping maintain the area and population and having to give back. I also think Megan's idea of it being doubled if caught twice and then the fine being issued on the third incident.

    Awesome work!!
