Week 2 Day 2 Activity 1 - Weaving a tall tale

Would I want to do flax weaving or not?

I would want to do flax weaving because I've already learnt how to make a flax Rose. I'm interested in flax weaving because I have had fun  practising weaving at school and would like to learn more.

Check my blog for more of my Summer Learning Journey.

  1. Talofa Maddison,

I think it's great you want to continue learning how to weave, I haven't weaved a flax rose yet, maybe it's something I'll give a go in future! Maybe next time you could talk about what you would like to weave out of your flax. Is there anything you’d like to make? It helps to think about who it is you want to make it for...

I would love to weave more often, I have weaved with plastic and flax before and it takes a lot of patience. One day I want to weave a fala (mat) for my family, we used to have lots in our house but not so much now. I would also love to weave my Mum, sisters and niece an Ili (fan), my Grandparents had so many beautiful ili that had the most vibrant colours.

    Keep up the good work.

    Toe feiloa'i fo'i,

    Cia.

  2. Hi Maddison,

I too would love to learn to weave. Do you remember my kete I got when we were in Mahia. That was weaved from flax. The lady that made it for me not only weaved it but she also spent hours beforehand dying it blue and red. I didnt know until a few years ago that it could dyed different colours.

    Awesome blogging
    Mum
