Science - Ice Cream in a Bag

Kia Ora bloggers! Today for my extra activity for school I made ice- cream in a bag!

You will need 2 Zip lock bags (1 small and 1 large) 1/2 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of cream, some flavouring, a tbsp of sugar, enough ice to fill half of the larger zip lock bag and 1/4 cup of salt (any type of salt works).

Firstly you place the cream, milk. sugar and flavouring into the smaller zip lock bag. You seal this and shake a little to mix ingredients together.  Lay it flat to make sure no air bubbles in bag.  Fill the larger bag with the ice and salt.  Place smaller bag into larger bag.  Seal this bag.  Then SHAKE!!!!  You will need to shake longer than you think.  You keep doing this until you have the thickness that you are looking for.  Put in a bowl or cup an enjoy.

I know for next time when I make it to shake it more than I did. Here are a couple of photos of the ingredients, me shaking the bag and enjoying the finished product!

What flavour could I do next?

  1. Hey Maddison,
Great idea and excellent instructions on how to do it! I reckon I may have to try it out myself, and because you've done such a great job at explaining what I need to do, I'm sure it'll turn out great! :) What flavours do think you could come up with? Chocolate may be a good one to do next.
    Thanks for sharing this Maddi!
