Summer Learning Journey - Try Your Own Tapa

Kia Ora Bloggers!!  Many Pacific Islands have their own versions of tapa cloths.  Today I have created my own tapa design and a description of it. Here it is!

The mountain and waves represent where I am from.  Mahia New Zealand and my tribe is Rongomaiwahine.  The Sky Tower represents where I live in Tamaki Makarau or as some as you know it as Auckland.  The Kowhai flower represents my school.

Blog you later!

  1. Hi Maddison

My name is Allie and I am the Cluster Manager for the SLJ in Toki Pounamu which is on the West Coast of the South Island.

You have done a fantastic job with creating your tapa cloth. Your drawings are really great! I really like the Kowhai flowers that you have drawn that represent your school. That is so nice that you have included your school in this activity.
The Sky Tower is a great icon of Auckland to put on your cloth too.

What colours would you use if you were going to make it colourful. It would really lovely if the flowers were a nice bright yellow.

If I was making my tapa cloth, it would include mountains, rivers with pounamu and a nikau palm tree. My family has a bach at Punakaiki and we are surrounded by nikau palms there, so they are special to us.

Great work Maddison. You have put a lot of effort into this activity. I really enjoyed reading all about it.
Thanks for sharing this with us all.

    Great work!

    Until next time

    Allie :)
