Week 1 Day 2 Activity 1 - Giants Among Us

My 1st blog post for Day 2 Week 1

Why I would go and see Tane Mahuta's big Kauri trees

I want to go to see the Kauri trees because I've never seen a massive Kauri tree it. I would have good exercise walking from the car to the tree and back to the car again.

Thanks for reading my blog! Be sure to check my blog to find more posts.

  1. Hi Maddison,

My name is Toe'umu, and I go to wesley primary school in room 3. I really like the reasons of why you would like to visit there. I do agree it is a massive tree. Do you know how old it is? This reminďs me of when I was studying of how we can stop spreading the kauri die back dieseas. Maybe next time you could say more reasons of why you want to visit the big kauri tree.

    Blog you later,
    Toe'umu

  2. Kia ora Maddison,

My name is Sophie and I am the Summer Learning Journey manager for the Manaiakalani cluster! I have really enjoyed reading this blog post from you. It is awesome that you would like to visit Tane Mahuta. It is such a magnificent tree and a very important part of New Zealand history. I think it would also be great to visit Tane Mahuta to see the beautiful forest surrounding it. Have you ever been in a huge forest?

    Keep up the great blogging!

    Talk soon,

    Sophie :)

  3. Kia ora Maddison,

I agree with you, I would love to visit Tane Mahuta to see how tall and wide the tree is. I am sure it is home to many beautiful birds and animals. I could imagine that you would find some kereru's high up in the branches. What kind of birds would you expect to see up there?

I recently watched a news report that there is a disease called the Kauri dieback disease. I see that Toe'umu mentioned it in her comment above. This disease has been wiping out Kauri trees all over New Zealand. Unfortunately, the disease has been spotted closer to Tane Mahuta than I realised. This tree has become somewhat of a legend here in New Zealand that it would be awful if we lost the tree. Maybe you could take a look at the video and let me know what shocked you the most about this video?

Keep soldiering through the activities, Maddison. You are doing an incredible job.

    Kindest regards,
    Megan :)

  4. Hi Maddison,

I too would love to visit Tane Mahuta. I mentioned on Samuel's blog that maybe we could do it as family adventure one day.
